Talking About Food And Cooking

Hi everyone, my name is Molly. Welcome to my site. I am here to talk to you about food and cooking. As I started attending college, I realized I had very little knowledge about cooking. I always enjoyed my mom’s home-cooked meals and rarely ever cooked anything for myself. In college, I was on my own. I decided against eating ramen every day and picked up a cook book instead. I learned about making simple and complex dishes using a limited amount of space and equipment. I would like to explore this topic in more detail on this site. Thanks for coming by.

Fun Party Food: How To Create A Unique Taco Bar

Are you looking for a way to spice up your next party? If so, think of some new and inventive ideas for your menu. Many people choose to serve up a taco bar. While this is a fun idea, it is fairly common. If you want to make your taco bar more unique and adventurous, consider offering up some taco fixings that are not the norm.

Meat Filling

The base of any taco is the meat filling. Typically, it is ground beef flavored with chili powder and cumin. If you want to jazz up your taco meat, consider some different spices on the ground beef, such as ginger or turmeric.

In addition to ground beef, you can also add some additional meat fillings to your taco bar. Consider some sliced pork flavored with mint or rosemary, chicken spiced with Cajun seasoning, or fish sautéed in butter with simple salt and pepper. You can also have steak strips with traditional Mexican seasonings for your guests who are not as adventurous.

Non-Meat Filling

For those guests who are not interested in eating meat, you can consider some fillings that are not meat based. One fun filling for tacos is sweet potatoes. This is a delicious filling that is easily flavored with any spice. To make your sweet potato filling, simply bake a sweet potato, cube it into bite-size pieces, and toss it in some olive oil, salt, and pepper. For some extra spice, add some chili powder to the potatoes. You can do the same with regular potatoes as well.

In addition to potatoes, you can also grill up a colorful selection of peppers, onions, and button mushrooms. This makes a delicious filling for your vegetarian friends. Portobello mushrooms sliced into strips make a fantastic, stand-alone filling for tacos. Grilled zucchini, eggplant, or yellow squash are also great non-meat fillings.

Toppings

The toppings for tacos are one of the most fun aspects of a taco bar. You should of course include the standard lettuce, tomato, and cheddar cheese. But this is also the time to think outside of the box. Cole slaw, radicchio, watercress, and other baby greens add sophistication to any taco bar. Also make some easy homemade Pico de Gallo for your guest's enjoyment. Simply add equal parts of chopped tomato, onion, and cilantro in a bowl. Add some salt, pepper, and lime juice, and allow it to marinate for several hours. Mango salsa, Verde sauce, and black beans should also make an appearance. In addition, serve different cheeses such as bleu cheese, goat cheese, Swiss, and any other cheese that melts nicely.

Making up a taco bar with food similar to that found in Mexican restaurants near Tucson AZ is a great way to entertain. Add in some fun music, colorful decorations, and you have the makings for a great party.
